In my book right now for the school. Also, it had a positive staff recommendation for renewal as well. This school board, in earlier inkarnation approved the original charter. Do i do want to reiterate there are problems with Charter Schools. Whether you want to phrase it as pushing out students. Students do leave Charter Schools. They dont get pushed out to another charter, they get pushed out to another Public School, and we gladly take them, but if i push as a principal at my school, cleveland elementary school, and i pushed out a student, theyre not going to go to a Charter School, theyre going to go to another school. Theres no reciprocity, and that has to change. If Charter Schools can cancel out and have students leave for one reason or another thats not going to make it, its not fair that nonCharter Schools cant do the same. I think thats lost on a lot of people but that is fundamentally different thing, and it needs to change, but i will support this renewal. President walton
Charter schools as Public Schools. The difference between the autonomy and the ability to make different kinds of decisions as an operating charter versus the systems that we are trying to build as a district are very different. I worry regularly that as we start chipping away at the system of traditional Public Schools that we start chipping away at those other options and opportunities that our kids are committed that were committed to providing to our young people. I am going to honor what i have committed to for the bay view and i am going to support the leadership we have put in place there with nikki and dmitriious. I believe in the leadership. The commitment in the principal and teacher this is the four Elementary Schools in the bay view are going to do it is going to have the investments reflected in their success. I wanted to share my thinking process and to thank you for coming out and that the communities that you have built have been strong but i am not prepared tonight to
As youve heard from several of the Board Members today, the resources are there so theyre not scrambling to get resources to make should happen, whithis if you look at the list, i think most schools would want those to happen, but they have to pick and choose from their own budget, and what im saying is its incumbent on me to look at our own budget, but also to go out and raise the resources so that these things are happening at these sites and schools arent having to come out of their own budgets, so whats different is these components will be in both sets of schools, whatever column that those schools are in, but they will be centrally allocated resources to make sure its happening in the way it needs to happen for students. Great, and i think how i im just trying to also identify what areas i can be helpful, and i think it sounds like were going to be needing to do some fund raising outside of what we already do, as well as think about other resources that are available, and so that
And your principal is really impressive. So i just dont want to close your door on her coming to work for the School District. If i could be open about and thats really what i believe as officials for this institution, what we have to be able to do is be up front and very focused and aggressive around getting the right people to work in our community. So i love james baldwin, too. You can teach it to the school, to the students as some of the other schools if youre looking for an opportunity. And the bars by the young man who rapped for us. So so you know, i want you all to know that we that i do listen, and i think its a very different thing to try to close an existing school and then open a new one. That is fu fundamentally different to me. Students in the high school, youre getting an up front view on how your local government work, and i invite you if you dont like the way we make the choices, to also run to be up here. That future is as available to you as it was to me. That was i
I think thats on us, so as community members, we need to show up. If our expectation is that we collectively need to do the Work Together to get our kids to where we need to be, so i want to appreciate your willingness to also not start from scratch and build on what we are already doing, because i do believe that there is strength in many of the areas, and we also have some areas where were weak. And you called a lot of that out, and i want to continue to work from an asset based model and acknowledging when we were actually in the areas that we are doing well, because we it always feels like we are doing nothing, and i want to understand what we will be doing differently, and what youll need from us to be successful. Because the areas many of the priorities that youve identified are priorities that weve all identified in the past. Theyre you know, your professional capacity, instructional guidance, you know, transforming mindsets, i think thats actually a new one that is is really gr
