The City of Edmonton will reopen five arenas on Thursday to allow minor hockey leagues to drop the puck for practice.
City manager Andre Corbould announced the city’s first step in reopening recreation facilities Wednesday in a COVID-19 update to council’s emergency advisory committee.

Terwillegar, Callingwood, Castle Downs, The Meadows and Kinsmen arenas will open for school groups and minor sport organizations like Hockey Edmonton. The Kinsmen Sports Centre will also reopen Thursday for dryland and aquatic training for youth sport activities or one-on-one training for athletes who are part of a sports organization. The city is only accommodating groups that have existing bookings to use city facilities, Corbould said.
