THE number of face masks being discarded in hedges has shocked a dog-walker. Clare Bartholomew, from Park South, regularly walks her dog around a 50-minute route along Kingswood Avenue and Welcombe Avenue where she is increasingly spotting face masks being littered. Not only are they dropped on the street, but she was also upset to discover they are being put in bushes. Clare said: “I’m so fed up of seeing these everywhere. I can t remember the last time I got home and thought ‘oh I ve dropped my mask’ there s just no excuse for so many to be discarded. It’s not helping that they’re being stuffed into hedges high up and rammed in there.”
Residents living in the area surrounding Belvedere’s Asda supermarket branch have hit out over the supermarket’s enforcement of trolley thefts. Trolleys from the superstore, which is located off Station Road, are regularly found littering the streets of the nearby area, according to members of a local residents group. Roads badly affected by the problem include Laymarsh Close, Kingswood Avenue, and St Augustines Road. A resident of Abbey Road, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “We regularly have abandoned Asda trolleys littering our streets between Laymarsh Close to Asda. “Some days we can count 17 or more. People use them to take back their shopping. It was suggested to Asda a while ago perhaps they can put pavement bumps down to deter people from wheeling them down the street.
