Another successful year for our young reporters

By Diana Jarvis, Director of the Young Reporter scheme The Young Reporters Award scheme is due to return later this year The 2021 Young Reporter Awards took place on Wednesday 23 June and students from all over the South-East attended the virtual award ceremony, in anticipation of winning the top prizes. Due to the pandemic the 2020 winners were also included in the ceremony and Nicholas James and Josh Bartholmew, top reporters from last year, both recorded presentations about their time doing the scheme. This year there were two new top reporters. Nandinee Thatte from The Henrietta Barnett School in North London, secured top place in the Year 10/11, as well as winning in two of the categories. She said: The experience was a valuable one as I was able to improve my writing. It allowed me to speak to people in my local community and learn more about their work. Schools sex scandal: Good Schools Guide editor says private schools ARE responsible

The editor of the Good Schools Guide has said private schools must take responsibility for boys behaviour outside the classroom because they market themselves on their skill at developing a child s character.   Melanie Sanderson said the schools should remember their marketing materials and talks for parents often boast of the work they do to create well-rounded individuals amid the growing fallout from the schools sex scandal.  It comes after more than 10,000 harrowing reports of alleged sexual assault were posted on website Everyone s Invited, where students can anonymously share their experiences of misogyny, harassment, abuse and assault. Accusations have so far named top public schools including Eton, Hampton and Charterhouse, with both girls and boys among the alleged victims.
