ECO concerns dominated when junior parliamentarians from Northwich Parliament quizzed their grown-up equivalent in Westminster. Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury was guest of honour at the online event organised by Northwich Education Partnership involving several primary schools in his constituency. Topics ranged from tackling flooding, reducing packaging and plastic use, increasing recycling, moving towards renewable energy and taking personal responsibility around not littering. Mr Amesbury, who had received letters from many of the children, said: “We’ve got a climate emergency and I notice one of the schools here has experienced that in quite a stark way.”

A 100-year-old Northwich Grandma was given a lovely festive surprise when she received Christmas cards sent to her by two local schoolchildren. Enid Roberts, who turns 101 in February, has had plenty to cope with this year, including a broken hip following a fall in June, so the gesture by Kingsmead Primary School pupils Orla and Magnus has really helped lift her spirits. Granddaughter Pippa Watson-Peck said: I just found them in the letterbox when I went around yesterday (Monday, December 21) and I just thought how sweet they were. I ve seen it being done at other schools around the country. The children from Kingsmead normally go and sing carols at Anderton Place every Christmas and they ve obviously not been able to do that this year.
