Its North Sea cod allowance was cut by 10%, saithe by 25%, herring by 7.4%, and plaice by 2.3%, but there were moderate increases for haddock (20%) and whiting (19.1%). Scottish Fishermen’s Federation chief executive Elspeth Macdonald said: “While there are positive outcomes on haddock and whiting, the result for North Sea cod is particularly disappointing in light of the very poor deal on adjusted quota shares between the UK and EU through the Brexit negotiations.

The new group – set up in response to seafood export chaos in January – has just held its second meeting, bringing together key industry figures with ministerial and official representatives of both the UK and Scottish governments. UK Fisheries Minister Victoria Prentis joined the virtual event, hosted by the Scotland Office, and told the task force streamlining of paperwork required by the EU had taken place as a result of industry feedback.

The second meeting brought together key industry figures with ministerial and official representatives of the UK Government. The Scottish Government was represented both by officials and Fergus Ewing, Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy.
