several books ago kingdom coming also author of a fantastic new book out right now about yoga and the woman that brought it to america. so you spent a lot of time reporting on the christian right. and the reason i wanted to talk to you today was, watching this event, there was a period around 2004 when all american political coverage, cover of time magazine, news week, that all of the political coverage about evangelicals and their political power. and it s like you would think that they ve melted like the glaciers. but, of course, those people are still there. and they still have the belief they have. well, most of them, but they don t have the political power they have. they don t have anywhere near the political power they have. you know, 2004, it wasn t just, you know, kind of one random
goldberg, author of kingdom coming, the rise of christian nationalism. i found the moment around the bundy ranch really interesting but a is harkens back to the 9s so militia. what has or hasn t changed? i cone think this the first time in the obama era that this kind of militia movement has we have seen an upsurge like this, saw this around death panels and people showing up at town hall meetings and conspiracy theories there was u.n. control of the death panels and the like. so, we have seen this before. we tend to see it unfortunately in modern times whenever democrats are in power. the modern republican party does not see democratic rule as legitimate. so when democrats are in power the republicans become fond of these right-wing insurgents that

happen, and how vile to suggest that you would basically that kind of brothers and sisters would get together and take a vote on one of their members and vote against them. any of you who have members of your family in the lifestyle, we have a member of our family that is i m reading a quote you have in the piece. this is not funny. it s a very sad life. it is part satan, i think, so say that this is gay. michelle is also author of a fantastic book you should go out and read called kingdom coming. michelle, thanks so much for joining me. really appreciate it. thanks so much for having me. just ahead, congressman peter king didn t really learn anything new the last time he held hearings taking aim at an entire religion, but that didn t stop him from giving it another go. congressman keith ellison, the first muslim elected to congress, joins me. and up next, cable officials are getting really, really upset
