CHENNAI: The state government on Thursday announced that it would establish a new multi-purpose super speciality hospital in the King Institute of Preventive Medicine & Research, Guindy at a cost of Rs 250 crore to mark the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
This has given rise to speculation in some quarters that the super speciality hospital at Government Omandurar Estate may be restored to its original status as the state Assembly cum secretariat complex.
The Assembly hall cum secretariat complex was built in 2010 to mark Karunanidhi completing 50 years as a legislator. Karunanidhi took personal interest in the construction of this complex and got it inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the presence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on March 13, 2010.
