The first is you have to have a legitimate government you cant have these powersharing agreements very at peac people n government are there to enrich their clan and there has to be a lot more people sen people cento there has to be some point where people are allowed to vote to select their own leaders and have a lot better situation. The second thing is to reduce the amount of violence. The main priority is if youre into violence in somalia you can have some Political Development and Economic Development as well. Thank you for having me. I spent, oh, months at the Truman Library about five or six years ago. I think the last time i stayed in kansas city was in 2000 for the Carnahan Ashcroft election. [laughter] one of the strangest events in the history of american politics. [laughter] glad to be back here again. I know that this is talking about truman and israel is like talking about the last time that the Kansas City Royals won the world series. [laughter] and i have to warn you that i may disappoint you, because im going to go around this in a kind of circuitous way. Well get to the truman at the end, but were going to start much further back, about 70 years before. Let me say first something about how i came to write this book, because i kept having to ask myself as i was doing it why i was writing it. [laughter] i wanted to write a book about the arabisraeli conflict. I was concerned that i hadnt been a reporter and done the daily work, but i also worried that in writing about that conflic
Basically all powerful when he chooses to use it. They can do what they wish but again tethered to the religious and the need to retain their approval from the religious establishment. Because, when the First Brother succeeded sowed in 1953 and he and his Second Brother basically quarreled for 10 years because the new king bankrupt the country and in the end, the family decided we ought to get rid of him and take king faisal and the religious establishment was in essence called and to bless them. So i think a lot of royal realize you always need to be able to be in the good graces of the religious establishment. You might need them one day, against each other. He was in and out of jail, in and out of house arrest. When they finally let him have his phone back, he got in touch with the bbc and complained about his abduction. So he was put back as he described to me in jail and then house arrest and he learned his lesson until he got the avian flu in 2010 and they thought he was probably going to die. Comes to boston, spends years here. I meet him, and he says i got to do something about this. As you can imagine, i was concerned when i heard what had happened before. You know . If you file a criminal complaint in geneva, arent you concerned youre going to be abducted again . I made sure he understood the risks. He understood. What happened. But he felt so a criminal complaint was filed. I found a very competent Trial Attorney in geneva, pierre dupres. And we filed a complaint in november of 2
