Twon Brass Protest: Diri condemns attack on Diette-Spiff On By Samuel Oyadongha, Yenagoa Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has condemned the attack on the Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass, King Alfred Diette-Spiff, by youths of the kingdom. King Diete-Spiff was the first Military Governor of the old Rivers State and current chairman of the state Traditional Rulers Council. Diri expressed his displeasure on Monday during a meeting with leaders of Twon-Brass in the Brass Local Government Area to resolve misunderstandings in the area. The governor In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, acknowledged the right of people to embark on peaceful protests but frowned at the recourse to the misguided attack on the monarch. He warned the youths to shun violence, adding that government would not condone any further attack on the revered king under any pretext.

Bayelsa traditional ruler flees for safety as protests by community turns ugly

The aggrieved community members, who had blocked access to the oil firm’s offices, shunned the appeal by the traditional ruler and became restive and hauled missiles at him, as he was immediately whisked off the scene to avert further violence. Mr Edward Edison, Youth President of Twon Brass told NAN that the timely intervention of the youths and armed security personnel deployed to the oil firm had doused the situation, though a 24-year old was shot in the process. He explained that King Diete-Spiff had to leave the community in a hurry to avert escalation of the situation as the residents vowed to remain in the premises of Agip until power was restored.
