THE earliest recording of interaction between Europeans and natives in Papar, on the West Coast of Sabah appears to be in the late 19th Century (late 1800s) with the natives clearly identifying themselves as members of the ‘Kadazan’ ethnic group and not members of the “Dusun’ ethnic group despite similarities in language, culture and dress.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced on Monday (Feb 8) the allocation for flood mitigation.
Hajiji, who visited the area to assess the situation, said the Sungai Kinarut Flood Mitigation Scheme project would be implemented in April by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID).
Under the Flood Mitigation Scheme project, the 3km-long Kinarut River would be widened and deepened and culverts and structures constructed to reinforce the riverbanks.
“The project is expected to complete within two years and we hope that the people in Kinarut will no longer have to face difficulties during the rainy season, ” he said.
Earlier, Sabah DID director Jeffrey Ng Vun Ping had briefed Hajiji that the prolonged period of heavy rain had caused the Sungai Kinarut to overflow, as it was too narrow and shallow.
