The provinceâs police watchdog has concluded Sudbury officers are not responsible for the death of a baby who was prematurely born after his motherâs arrest for breach of peace in 2019.
The Special Investigations Unit said the pregnant woman was âgroundedâ during the police response, which occurred outside a college residence on June 25, 2019.

âFour days later, on June 29, the woman gave birth to her baby,â the SIU said in a report. âBecause of the newbornâs premature birth, the baby passed away about an hour after he was born.â
