Political parties, teachers’ associations urge postponement in view of second wave
The State government’s decision to hold exams for students of Class X and Intermediate, at a time when the second wave of COVID-19 is spreading rapidly, will put close to 50 lakh people at risk, representatives of political parties and teachers’ associations said.
The Telugu Desam Party’s Vizianagaram Parliamentary wing president Kimidi Nagarjuna feared that Andhra Pradesh would soon report the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country if the examinations are allowed to be held without properly assessing the ground-level situation first.

The Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) Vizianagaram Parliamentary wing in-charge Kimidi Nagarjuna on Tuesday urged the State government to establish COVID Care Centres in all mandals at the earliest as many patients suffering from COVID-19 were unable to come to Vizianagaram to avail treatment.
In a press release, Mr. Nagarjuna said that at least 50 beds with oxygen facility should be provided in each centre.
“The government should ban sale of liquor immediately. Otherwise, the virus would continue to infect people at liquor shops where physical distancing is hardly being followed,” said Mr.Nagarjuna. He also sought stopping of NREGA works for at least ten days as the infection was spreading rapidly in fields. “The government should pay wages for those days as livelihood of workers should not be affected,” he added.

The Telugu Desam Party’s Parliamentary wing president Kimidi Nagarjuna on Saturday exuded confidence that voters would ensure a massive victory for the party in the upcoming panchayat elections.
“The people are fed up with the poor governance of the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy administration,” Mr. Nagarjuna said while accompanying TDP-backed candidates during the filing of their nominations in Cheepurupalli constituency.
“The so-called welfare schemes would be of little benefit to the people due to skyrocketing inflation, which has made lives miserable for the poor. People want stable prices for essential commodities and petrol. When the rates are drastically on the rise, people are unable to buy essential goods. The situation is worse for poor people living in villages where they have limited opportunities to earn income,” Mr. Nagarjuna said.

Former Minister and and former Telugu Desam Party State unit president Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao was arrested in Srikakulam in connection with the alleged attack on YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha member K. Vijaya Sai Reddy at Ramateertham in Vizianagaram district.
On January 2, a clash ensued between TDP and YSRCP workers when TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and Mr. Vijay Sai Reddy visited the temple simultaneously. TDP leaders reportedly attacked Mr. Vijaya Sai’s convoy by pelting it with stones and footwear, opposing his sudden visit when Mr. Naidu was about to visit the temple where Lord Rama’s statue was vandalised in the last week of December 2020.
