The Elgin City Council approved agreements Wednesday with a pair of engineering firms that will oversee the early phases of projects to reconstruct the Kimball and Chicago streets bridges. Construction tentatively is slated to begin in 2026.
Elgin has designated eight new parks and green spaces as "Pesticide Free Zones," opting instead for natural lawn care management. The new sites include Corley Drive Park, Marie Grolich Park, Kirk and Kramer Park, Randall Ridge Park, Summerhill Park, Trillium Park, Willow Creek Park and the Congdon and Blackhawk water tower site.
The city of Elgin is celebrating the Fourth of July with a parade, concert and fireworks, all on Monday, July 4. This year s theme is "There is No Place Like Home" in conjunction with the Gail Borden Public Library s summer reading program.
