Area School Board Races & Referendums

The Waverly and New Berlin School Districts have had controversies surrounding their superintendents over the past year, and now members of the community are stepping forward to run against incumbents. In Waverly, one incumbent, Jim Brown is seeking re-election to one of the 3 seats open. Newcomers David Carter, Makayla Fawcett, and Stefanie Ortman are looking to reshape the board. In New Berlin, no incumbents sought re-election. Three new members will be chosen out of 5 choices that include Holly Kotner, Jenny Mann, Casey Binkley, David Bridges, and Andrew Brashear.

DTE Midstream Executive David Slater Elected INGAA Chairman | North American Oil & Gas Pipelines

January 25, 2021News The board of directors of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) has elected David Slater to serve as chairman of the organization for a one-year term. Slater is president and COO of DTE Midstream. “With more than 30 years of experience in the industry, David has skillfully managed and led the growth of DTE’s midstream operations,” said Amy Andryszak, president and CEO of INGAA. “His leadership in this space makes him well suited to help guide INGAA’s mission and promote our industry’s commitment to the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to consumers across the country. Early UFC Fighter Paul Varelans Passes Away After Battle With COVID-19

Paul Varelans, who competed on some of the earliest UFC cards, has passed away after a battle with COVID-19. ESPN reports that Varelans passed away on Saturday, just over a month after he announced via Twitter that he had contracted the virus on December 12th. UFC co-founder Art Davie noted on December 17th that Varelans had been put in a medically-induced coma and placed on a ventilator in the ICU. It appears he did not recover and his girlfriend Kim Watson has confirmed passed on Saturday. He was 51. Varelans fought on several early UFC shows, first competing at UFC 6 where he had two fights: a win against Cal Worsham and a loss to Tank Abbott. He made it to the finals of a tournament at UFC 7, where he lost to Marco Ruas after 13 minutes.
