Nicola Sturgeon to publish vaccine supply figures despite Government s demand not to Save 28 January 2021 • 5:25pm Follow Nicola Sturgeon has refused to follow the UK Government’s demand not to publish vaccine supply figures.  The First Minister said that while her government had initially agreed to withdraw the statistics from its website, it would republish them as a result of a “briefing” of the figures by the UK Government to the media. I’m not going to go into detail about us publishing the expected supply and the UK Government demanding we took that out of the public domain, but are happy to brief these figures through spin to the media.

Warning over new strains that might escape vaccines in future

Meanwhile, the manufacture of a coronavirus vaccine is beginning in Scotland today. If it is approved by regulators manufacturer Valneva is expected to deliver up to 60 million doses to the UK later in the year. If the vaccine is proven to be safe, effective and suitable, the UK has secured an option to acquire a further 130 million doses. The vaccine is being manufactured at Valneva’s site in Livingston, West Lothian. It comes as the EU demands vaccine supplies from AstraZeneca to be sent from UK plants. Senior Cabinet minister Michael Gove has said there “will be no interruption” to vaccine supplies.

Britain s Pfizer vaccine supply threatened by new rules expected to be approved by European Commission Tensions between the UK and EU over vaccine supplies have reached a crisis point The European Commission is expected to approve new rules that threaten Britain’s supply of Pfizer vaccines from Belgium with an EU export ban on Friday.  Companies will be forced to ask national customs authorities and the European Commission for permission to export vaccines out of the bloc, under the plans for the “export transparency mechanism”.  EU officials said vaccine exports out of the EU, including to Britain, would only be banned if it meant there would not be enough jabs in the bloc to fulfil contracts agreed between Brussels and pharmaceutical companies.
