It has been 30 years since the world first came together to celebrate World Water Day, held each year on March 22. The day aims to raise awareness of the value of water, with an estimated 2 billion people living without access to clean water. “This year, World Water Day is focused on accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis,” said a UNESCO press release.
Siem Reap province’s Banteay Srei district is now the third district of the province to be declared open defecation free (ODF), with 100 per cent of the community able to access toilets, while Angkor Thom district will be declared ODF soon.
Plan International (PI) Cambodia will host a four-day media tour of Stung Treng province. The trip will introduce journalists to four projects which the organisation is conducting to empower girls and young women, who it says face discrimination.
Prey Veng has been declared the second “open defecation free” (ODF) province in Cambodia after Svay Rieng, meaning that every family in the province has access to a toilet, while Kandal has successfully achieved ODF status within the provincial framework.
