time now for our hits and misses of the week. kim, let s start us off. no one should like the process behind this week s omnibus to fund the government, but the bill itself nonetheless deserves a hit in the it marks the first time republicans effectively used the power of the purse to do battle with the obama administration. the bill cuts funding for menacing agencies like the epa and irs. it eliminates programs, it had a number of policy writers blocking job crushing regulations. the republican congress is not going to be able to dismantle the entirety of the obama agenda, but this is a model for how they can use tools given to them under the constitution to notch the victory. all right, kim. joe. everybody s talking about the rolling stones story on the university of virginia sexual assault that appears to be d
care law s disastrous debut. telling new york times this week we never recovered from the rollout because the election became one that was directed toward the president. we couldn t overcome that. for more i m joined by the wall street journal political diary editor jason rilely, editorial board member joe and columnist kim stras l. one of the things about elections, kim, afterwards some of the politicians will admit exactly the opposite of what they were saying before the election. which is what we have here with harry reid and obamacare. why the new candor from harry? well, it takes some time, as you said. elections do tend to focus the mind. and it is not just harry reid. you have his comments, but you had chuck schumer, another leading democrat saying we shouldn t have passed this in the first term. you had tom harkin, the retiring senator from iowa, one of the more liberal senators from congress saying this was a poorly drafted law and we should
