Holy Schist

Holy Schist If you are looking for unique places to visit in Portugal, Piodão, a village in Serra do Açor is definitely something you will want to check out and its mix of nature and history has undoubtedly catapulted this gem to the top of my must-see list. Probably one of the only upsides to the whole Covid-19 debacle is that people all around the world have started to exchange the holiday plane ticket for a car or train ride, which not only the environment vehemently enjoyed but it also meant that we all had a great chance to explore the beauty of the country we live in.

How Yoga helps Surfers

How Yoga helps Surfers I had the pleasure to meet Rachel Lingham, a surf and yoga instructor that taught me how yoga can complement surfing in ways that may not seem obvious at first. Looking at the two, yoga and surfing do not seem to have much in common, one is happening on a soft matt on a sturdy floor, the other happens in the ocean on a board with conditions that constantly change. Yet practicing yoga as a surfer can help you improve in almost every aspect of surfing. Rachel told me about how she started going to yoga classes in her teens but never really developed a connection to the sport until she started surfing.

Beach of the Week

Beach of the week Beach of the Week Praia de Alvor This beach is located just 8 kilometres outside of Portimão, one of the biggest cities in the Algarve, and is also the other half to the well known beach of Meia Praia, separated by the Ribeira de Odiáxere. The fine, white sand here stretches for several kilometres which means that, if you seek some privacy, finding a spot away from the crowds is possible even in the peak of summer. Apart from offering enough space for everyone, it also has all the necessary facilities and lots of activities like kitesurfing, windsurfing and water-skiing available. Praia de Alvor is also a blue flag beach and wooden walkways have been installed along the sand in order to not only make it more accessible, but also to preserve the surrounding sand dunes.
