Former motor mechanic Malcolm Hodgetts, who turns 73 this month, had never picked an apple or carried out any farm work before the current harvest.

The retiree, who also worked in the mining industry, decided to come out of retirement to help pick the apple crop at an orchard in the Tamar Valley, in northern Tasmania, that was desperate for workers.

Fannie G. Krevsky wasn’t afraid to make her voice heard.
For decades, she was committed to helping her community, serving as a member of the Harrisburg School Board for 24 years. She was also the board’s first female president. She was an avid volunteer and served on the boards of the Harrisburg Library and Police Athletic League.
On Dec. 16, the 104-year-old Harrisburg legend died in her home.
“She was one in a million,” said Corky Goldstein, a friend who also served alongside her during her tenure with the school board.
