New school board members share thanks; WISD moves on after bond fails

Waxahachie Daily Light On Saturday, the Waxahachie ISD bond election failed to pass, and the Board of Trustees filled two positions available. The winners of those races shared their appreciation to the community.  Although the bond was not passed, WISD will move forward from this loss. We’re certainly disappointed in the election results, but we will move forward and always do what is best for kids. We look forward to continuing to work with our community to determine the solutions they support to manage the growth we continue to see within the district, shared Jenny Bridges, director of public relations.

Waxahachie ISD school bond fails to pass; board trustees elected

Letter to the editor an endorsement of Kim Kriegel for school board

Waxahachie Daily Light As a former WISD student and now voter, I am endorsing Kim Kriegel for WISD Trustee, Place 3. Mrs. Kriegel’s credentials as a dedicated public servant, involved educator, and mentor has shown and still shows through her leadership and legacy today. Mrs. Kriegel is very well respected and admired in the Black community and we are forever grateful that she has a heart for our children and their future. Her tireless campaign efforts are greatly appreciated, as are the goals she has articulated for WISD schools. Mrs. Kriegel’s dedication to professionalism and being a positive voice for ALL students are the necessary ingredients that will continue to shape our community in a positive way. I would not be the Ph.D. candidate, published author, and college professor that I am today without the guidance and wisdom of Mrs. Kriegel.

Ellis County voters go to polls on Saturday

U.S. House special election, WISD bond referendum spice up ballot Waxahachie Daily Light Normally, the early-May joint city and school elections are a staid affair, with local candidates vying genially for local office. The last two election cycles, however, have been anything but normal. Last spring’s balloting was shoved to November because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the stakes in Ellis County are boosted by not only a major Waxahachie ISD bond referendum, but also a U.S. congressional special election made necessary by the Feb. 7 death of District 6 Republican Rep. Ron Wright. Tuesday was the final day for early voting at election centers throughout Ellis County. Election Day voting begins Saturday at 7 a.m. and will continue until 7 p.m. A list of vote centers is available on the Ellis County Elections website.
