It was along this very stretch of roadway that the finding of a grand jury was converted to violence that raged here last night. And make no mistake, it was urban combat. There are still shell casings here underfoot. A Police Commander said last night that first volley of tear gas they fired was because officers encounter so many guns within the crowd, they were worried they may not make it out of there. Some of the protesters then turned to forcible entry, then the looting and the fires started. Cars and businesses mostly. 25 structures torched in all. 82 arrests were made last night. All of it because a grand jury did not return an indictment against the white Police Officer who shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager.
