South Korea’s Military Mutual Aid Association (MMAA) has hired Lee Sang-hee as its new chief investment officer.
He succeeds Kim Jae-dong, who retired in March when his term ended, the pension fund says in a statement on May 17.
Lee’s appointment is effective May 20 and he will serve for a three-year term.
Before joining the pension fund, Lee was CIO of Korean insurer Lotte Non-Life Insurance for six years. Prior to that, he was chief representative officer in the US for Samsung Life Insurance.
Seoul-based MMAA, a pension fund for military service personnel and civilian employees, had 12.7 trillion won (US$11.43 billion) of assets as of December 2020.

Lee Do-yoon, a former chief investment officer of South Korea s Police Mutual Aid Association (PMAA), has been named as CIO of the Yellow Umbrella Mutual Aid Fund, a $13 billion savings arm of Korean small business owners.
He was among the three shortlisted candidates for the new post, including an unidentified domestic savings fund CIO, to replace Jeong Du-Yeong who is retiring at the end of this month after a two-year term. Previously, Jeong had worked as CIO of Korea Scientists and Engineers Mutual-Aid Association for four years until 2019.

South Korea s Police Mutual Aid Association (PMAA) has been looking for a new chief investment officer for a half year, while the sovereign wealth fund Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) and the Military Mutual Aid Association (MMAA) have just kicked off their CIO selection process.
Another retirement fund Korea Scientists & Engineers Mutual-aid Association will likely join them soon to find the successor of CIO Huh Sung-moo whose two-year term is expiring next month.
In the second half, the National Pension Service (NPS), which manages $740 billion in assets, is expected to launch the process to replace its CIO Ahn Hyo-joon. Ahn s two-year term was extended to early October of this year.
