Superintendent Announces New Shepaug School Principal

BRIDGEWATER-ROXBURY-WASHINGTON — Region 12 Superintendent of Schools Megan Bennett announced on Monday, May 3, that Donald Schels is the new principal at Shepaug Valley School, replacing Principal Kim Gallo, who is retiring June 30. Ms. Gallo, who served Shepaug for 11.5 years, announced her retirement in March. Mr. Schels was selected from a large pool of qualified candidates, according to a Region 12 news release. Ms. Bennett stated “Mr. Schels’ diverse career background, ongoing thirst for knowledge and varied interests will reflect the spirit of Shepaug.” She said he showed a well-versed understanding of instructional practices and his belief inthe  success of all students. During the Board of Education meeting on May 3, Mr. Schels told board members he is the listener in chief and stressed the importance of listening to all members of the school and community. He said he plans to engage with every stakeholder, maintain the vibrant relations

In Region 12: Superintendent Reports on Covid-19 Plans

BRIDGEWATER-ROXBURY-WASHINGTON — Superintendent Megan Bennett informed the Region 12 Board of Education, meeting Monday, February 22, that Region 12 staff will finally be able to have access to the Covid-19 vaccine. In accordance to Gov. Ned Lamont’s recent update, teachers and school staff members, including bus drivers and other personnel, are officially qualified to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, starting March 1. Gov. Lamont said on February 22 the state will continue with an age-based approach to expand eligibility for the vaccine, extended to include educators and child care providers at dedicated clinics in March. He noted that previouslt planned scenarios proved to be overly complex and confusing and could slow down the process of providing vaccines to Connecticut residents.
