One Black former State Police investigator, Michael Marin, recalled a white colleague admonishing him in 2008 to “take the cotton you’ve been picking out your ears.” “It was like I was still on the farm,” said Marin, who retired in 2019. “It didn’t seem extraordinary to me because that’s how that job was.”

Palm Springs Desert Sun Statue not a good use of money As a winter resident of Palm Springs and a homeowner, I find it somewhat disturbing that the city’s council has approved a considerable amount of taxpayers’ money around the purchase, transport and erection of the Marilyn sculpture. Many in the community are upset at this project.  Beyond the arguments around culture and the objectification of the female form, all valid points, it seems even more remarkable that having constructed a new road and named it “Museum Way,” at considerable expense, that that road will now be altered in order to accommodate this new attraction.
