Today, he’ll finally fill in the details and likely face some hard questions on the massive ‘21-’22 financial plan for the state that he says is “roaring back” from the Covid pandemic.

For the first time in the state s history, California will be losing a Congressional seat, according to the 2020 Census data released late last month, which Spencer reported on. The news from Friday now looks to California s own data, from the California Department of Finance, which estimated the state lost 0.46 percent of its population last year.
The population loss is the first the state has measured as an annual decline in the decades it has been tracking annual population data. In 2019, state demographers had estimated a population increase of 0.2 percent, or 87,494 people.
But in 2020, California saw a net loss of 182,083 people and a net exodus of 310,918 people.

THE BUZZ: Is personal wealth a political turnoff?
The moment that many people will remember from Republican gubernatorial candidate Caitlyn Jenner’s Wednesday debut was Jenner’s anecdote about a hangar-mate fleeing for Arizona. The point was intended to illustrate how a spiraling homelessness crisis has driven Californians away, but allies of Gov. Gavin Newsom exulted in what they saw as a foot-in-mouth moment. Not many voters can relate to conversations around personal airplanes, and based on the outpouring of social media mockery you can bet Jenner’s foes will use the episode to argue she’s disconnected from voters.

I first arrived in Sacramento last summer, in the middle of the COVID-19 health crisis and social turmoil spurred by the death of George Floyd, a Black man who was killed by a white Minneapolis police officer.
On my first day, I covered how Latino and Black Sacramentans communities disproportionately impacted by the virus weighed the risks of staying home or hitting the streets to protest against racial inequity. For many, the moment was too important to miss.
