Brandon neighborhood s planned fireworks show under scrutiny by FWC due to nesting bird regulations Jordan Bowen reports BRANDON, Fla. - A neighborhood s plans for the Fourth of July aren t going over well with bird advocates. Residents of Twin Lakes in Brandon are planning to shoot off fireworks by Lake Michaela, but the area is a nesting site for birds and, therefore, protected by federal law. If any of the birds are killed because of the fireworks, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission could pursue charges. Right now, many are nesting, and the fireworks could be detrimental to that process, so advocates are asking residents to keep them at home.

Reply Florida Voices for Animals has offered a $2,000 reward to anyone with information about the individuals intentionally injuring pelicans at the Skyway Fishing Pier.​ (Bruce Bennett/Getty Images) MANATEE COUNTY, FL Florida Voices for Animals, a vegan activist group and nonprofit organization, has offered a $2,000 reward in the search for the individuals who have been intentionally injuring brown pelicans at the Skyway Fishing Pier on the Manatee County side of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Since Jan. 9, 16 pelicans have been found scalped at the pier, according to a news release from FVA. The reward is offered to anyone with information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for harming the birds.
