Outdoor seating is not a reasonable option for 95% of restaurants or guests for that matter,” said Tom Casatelli, co-owner of The Kettle Black and Ho’Brah. The Kettle Black maintains a sprawling wooden structure that encompasses approximately four storefronts. Ho’Brah across Forest Avenue, under the same ownership, has a smaller version and also a portable tiki bar. Casatelli said taking all of them down was a source of discussion today among his partners. For now the roadway pieces have become part of the landscape of the neighborhood with concrete bastions flanking either side.

The innovative West Brighton restaurant brings us igloos and bubbles for a continuation of sheltered outdoor dining. Burrito Bar brass Kim Beckett and Andrew Greenfield first saw igloos at Bryant Park in Manhattan last year. They had hoped to offer the experience to Staten Islanders.
