war is officially over. the war in afghanistan is officially over. as skwrep from said the last american airplanes of u.s. troops have left and tal boone in control of the airport. there are americans still there and the state department will work to get remaining americans out. we take this around our table, first. poet, have served. this must be filled with a lot of different emotions. yes, it s almost surreal to see that banner at the bottom right will. america ends war on n. afghanistan. setting aside all of the criticisms i and all others have i m very glad every one of our boys at this point is off of that airfield. off of that kill zone and that x. you can talk about what was miss man amed and the future. we will talk about that.
they are something like not manmade but they aren t formal kinds of rocket launchers. typically they sometimes fire them out of a back of a truck or car. one of the strikes we ve had against isis-k you could see the rocket launchers in the back seat of the car. they are inaccurate but if they happen to hit something they can cause damage. harris: you can t do a directional hit. but if you created what other military analysts have told me the best word to use right now at that airport is a kill zone because you have people that can only come and go in one direction. one portal, no other airfield. if you create a target, they don t have to be all that accurate. the kabul airport is still fairly large. but really they are just kind of in the right direction and you just hope it lands on something. they typically don t most of them but you are absolutely right. it is such a comparative small
we used to use in the old days, was that it really reduces the risk of cathedral collateral damage to collateral damage to innocent civilians in the immediate vicinity. i think this was an extraordinarily important strike for us. i think that those targets were most likely conducting preattack surveillance. we were able to detect them possibly through chatter, through signals intelligence but imagine that we re no longer at the airport conducting force protection operations like this one. those guys will be running free and plotting against us in the region or potentially beyond once we leave the airport and that is of great concern. but kudos to our military for doing all the work that they re doing because they re simultaneously protecting at the point of attack. they can t get off the x. they are right there in an isis kill zone and kudos to them for getting out there and taking the fight to the enemy. eric: absolutely. we ve seen testify ect of that and it was just the effect o
so they are in grave danger. trying to make your way out of afghanistan on foot without assistance is extraordinarily difficult and challenging. really again we can go back over this about all the mistakes we made. right now the focus rightly so what we can do going forward. you raise a great point and the biden administration needs to tell us what is the plan going forward? first and foremost target the terrorists that seek to hurt us in the region and here in the homeland? what are we going to do going forward? secondly how are we going to protect to get our american citizens out of harm s way in the coming days. i haven t heard about a plan yet. that is real concern. pete: what is their most likely course of action and what is their most dangerous course of action as you re thinking through what the enemy could be doing? here we are on the kill zone, on
taliban, that they re coordinated, that they re tied at the hip. many experts say that last night on judge jeanine s show. lindsey graham says the taliban is slow walking clearing people to go, to these points and that he believes that they re doing that on purpose to hold them hostage. so my question to you, clearly kabul airport is dangerous, in control by these terrorists. is there any other way for the americans to escape this country, perhaps another region, perhaps by foot or some sort of network through the region held by the resistance fighters? look, the airport has been a kill zone. that is how isis would regard it. it has been that way over a week now. as far as getting out with other means, keep in mind that our american citizens and our afghan partners are being hunted down not just by the taliban which is seeking revenge but by isis as well as al qaeda.
