Southwark Heritage Centre and Walworth Library launches

Southwark Heritage Centre and Walworth Library  Southwark Council officially launched a new library and heritage centre in Walworth “dedicated to telling the story of Southwark and its people” on Wednesday (19 May).  In line with Covid-19 restrictions, the launch of Southwark Heritage Centre and Walworth Library was attended by a limited number of guests that included Southwark Pensioners, Walworth Society and Dawes Tenants and Residents Association.   Visitors can browse 20,000 new books in the children’s and adults’ library and view 300 historical artefacts and artworks.   The centre in Walworth Road features local objects from Southwark’s past, including the only known souvenir of long-gone Victorian Surrey Zoological Gardens.

In an interview with Newsday on Wednesday, Divisional Fire Officer David Thomas said investigators did not see any evidence that the blaze was deliberate. Last Wednesday, Williams, alias “Buggy,” a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) retiree, was found dead in his Williams Trace, Government House Road, Scarborough home. Police and fire officials were alerted to the blaze by neighbours who saw the fire around 7.30 pm.

Williams, alias Buggy, a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) retiree who lived alone, was believed to be the only person in the house at the time of the blaze. After the flames were doused, DMO Thomas ordered Williams body removed to the Scarborough General Hospital s mortuary for autopsy.

From initial information, around 7.30 pm on Wednesday, police and fire officials were alerted to the blaze at Williams Trace, Government House Road in Scarborough, Tobago. Divisional fire officer David Thomas told Newsday, the wooden building construction was completely destroyed. He said Kieron Williams, alias Buggy, a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) retiree, died in th flames. He said Williams, was alone at the time of the fire. His body was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital Mortuary. Investigators are expected to return to the scene this morning, to continue investigating the cause of the blaze.
