The SA Thoracic Society (Sats), says has expressed concern that an interview on Carte Blanche with pulmonologist Dr Emannuel Taban, could spark the use of an inappropriate and potentially unsafe routine therapeutic bronchoscopy for patients with severe Covid-19 pneumonia.
Sats states that after the interview was shared extensively on social media, it has lead to some conspiracy theories accusing the government of hiding the treatment from the public.

Germany has squandered its early success in restricting Covid-19.
Although stereotyped as rule-followers, not all Germans are showing the same commitment to mask-wearing and social distancing as during the months when they had the pandemic under control.
In some districts such as Bautzen and Goerlitz in Saxony state â where the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has the most support â the incidence of Covid-19 is three times the national rate.
The AfD often marches in anti-Covid rallies with anti-maskers, conspiracy theorists and anti-vaccination campaigners.

Veteran radio personality Kieno Kammies is back at home recovering from Covid-19 pneumonia after he was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
As Cape Town s hospital system battles with a second wave of Covid-19 infections, Kieno caught up with listeners on his mid-morning show to give them an update on his health status.
