Competition organiser and Halcombe school teacher Margot Mackie said every year was exciting. “There are 100 questions, each one different every year. it’s great to see so many children loving books, especially with how much technology is available.” She said the quiz was a great way for students who weren t “sporty to shine. This year marked 30 years of the international competition, run by quiz founder and retired Auckland University lecturer Wayne Mills. Usually pupils competed for the chance to be the world Kids’ Lit champion, but since the spread of Covid-19, the furtherest they could go was the national competition in Wellington.
