It is important to note that blood group match is not imporant for patients, however, antibodies compatibility is a must. What is kidney paired donation? KPD is a process of exchange of recipient/donor pairs, who are related but incompatible. Recipient of one pair is compatible with the donor of the other pair. KPD is a way through which centres can support such pairs and increase the donor pool. The burden of chronic kidney failure is huge in India i.e. more than 12 crore people battle this illness. Every year, close to three lakh patients suffer with end stage kidney failure where they either need dialysis or transplantation. The irony is that hardly one-third has access to the same and of these, only 10 % sustain for a longer period.

KPD sees increased call volume during winter storm, faces other challenges

The winter storm, already infamous with effects still ongoing, has posed challenges for Killeenâs police force, including an increase in calls for service, but officers are rolling with the punches. âItâs been a challenge prioritizing the many calls for service to help Killeenâs residents,â said Ofelia Miramontez, KPD spokeswoman, in an email on Thursday. âThis week alone, the department has received a high volume of calls related to traffic crashes and disabled vehicles, due to the weather and road conditions.â At the same time, the usual police work continues. According to the online Community Crime Map over the past week, officers have responded to 10 narcotics violations, eight instances of vandalism, five aggravated assaults, four DUIs, five motor vehicle thefts, and five other burglaries and thefts, along with other calls.
