Ethiopia: Survivors describe being shot by soldiers in Tigray - Ethiopia

Ethiopia: Survivors describe being shot by soldiers in Tigray Format Twenty injured people treated at hospitals supported by MSF On the morning of April 12, soldiers traveling in several vehicles opened fire near a bus station in the town of Adwa, in Ethiopia s Tigray region, causing multiple deaths and serious injuries, according to survivors treated by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). The indiscriminate shooting of people far from a front line is shocking in a public place, in a big town, in a busy moment of the day, said Maricarmen Viñoles, the head of MSF s emergency unit. We urge all armed parties to this conflict to protect and respect people s lives.

Eritrean troops open fire in Tigray s Adwa, kill 3: Rights group | Abiy Ahmed News

Eritrean soldiers have opened fire on civilians in Ethiopia’s embattled Tigray region, killing three people and wounding at least 19, according to Amnesty International. In a statement on Wednesday, the rights watchdog said the “unprovoked attack” took place in the centre of Adwa town early on Monday, more than two weeks after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Eritrea had agreed to withdraw the forces it had sent into the northern Ethiopian region during the conflict that broke out there in November 2020. “Three people lost their lives and at least 19 others are in hospital from yet another unlawful attack by Eritrean troops on civilians in Tigray. Deliberate attacks on civilians are prohibited by international humanitarian law and must stop,” Amnesty East Africa Deputy Director Sarah Jackson said in the statement, which confirmed earlier reports of the attack.

Eritrean soldiers kill nine civilians in Tigray, Ethiopian regional official says

By Reuters Staff 4 Min Read NAIROBI, April 14 (Reuters) - Eritrean soldiers opened fire in an Ethiopian town on Monday, killing at least nine civilians and wounding more than a dozen others, a local government official told Reuters. Berhane Gebretsadik, an administrator for Ethiopia’s federally appointed interim Tigray government, said on Wednesday that Ethiopian National Defence forces had intervened to repel the attack in the town of Adwa. “It was the Eritrean soldiers who killed innocent people,” he said. “If it wasn’t for the National Defence who intervened and saved them (residents), they would have continued killing more people,” he said, referring to Ethiopia’s national army.
