Dunninger and Yohannes Earn Individual Titles, Women in Second Place After Day Two CLOVIS, CALIF.  The University of New Mexico track and field team made another strong appearance in day two of the 2021 Mountain West Outdoor Championships as Awet Yohannes and Camillo Dunninger both claimed individual titles. Dunninger completed the men’s decathlon today and claimed the MW title after posting a total of 7,481 points. The last time a Lobo claimed the MW Title in the decathlon was in 2011. Yohannes earned the MW Individual title in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, and it is the first time a Lobo won the MW title in this event since 2015.

Lobos Complete a Successful Day at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier

Lobos Complete a Successful Day at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.  The University of New Mexico sent 20 athletes to the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday. Of the 20 athletes, the Lobos came away with 15 top-5 finishes, including three first-place finishes. The three first-place finishes came from freshman Matthew Larkin in the Men’s 800m (1:52.22), senior Ada’ora Chigbo in the Women’s High Jump, and senior Steffi Jones in the Women’s Mile (4:54.04). Also running the Women’s Mile with Jones was freshman Isabella Fauria who finished in second at a time of 4:58.28. In a similar style, alongside Larkin in the 800m, Gavin Sleeter finished in second place with a time of 1:54.09. This race was Larkin’s collegiate debut with the Lobos.
