300 stolen animals recovered, 42 people arrested in EC stock theft and drug crackdown

Police have recovered nearly 300 suspected stolen livestock animals in the O R Tambo district in less than three weeks. Provincial police spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni confirmed that 121 cattle, 111 goats, 57 sheep, and eight horses had been recovered in the district during a multi-disciplinary cross-border operation from February 19 to date.

Co-operative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta) MEC Xolile Nqatha confirmed placing the traditional leader on precautionary suspension in terms of section 32 (1) of the Eastern Cape Traditional Leadership Act 1 of 2017.

Excuses, excuses as Makhanda goes a week without water

As Makhanda entered a week without water on Wednesday 24 February, the municipality said the electrical infrastructure used to monitor the reservoir levels at the Botha’s Hill reservoir had been vandalised overnight and this was preventing it from supplying water to at least part of the town. But Gift of the Givers’ Dr Imtiaz Sooliman said he had heard that excuse too many times over the last two years.
