Demonstrations marching through Sudan’s capital under the slogan “Overthrow the coup and settlement” were met with force yesterday, as another civil society organisation signed the initial framework agreement between an alliance of civilian parties and the military junta.
The Marches of Millions launched in Khartoum’s cities and Wad Madani, capital of El Gezira, yesterday under the slogan ‘Reject the False Power’. Protesters were again confronted with excessive violence.
Thousands of people demonstrated in Khartoum and various other places in Sudan on Sunday, in response to the calls of the resistance committees for new Marches of Millions to demand an end to military rule, and in response to police statements indicating that protesters are organised and violent.
After the mass demonstrations on October 25, marking the first anniversary of the 2021 military coup, the Sudanese Police Force issued a statement calling the pro-democracy protesters “trained forces with armed military formations”. Resistance Committees, journalists, doctors, and opposition groups rejected the false accusations.
