Egyptian civil protection units in their ongoing efforts retrieved another body on Wednesday from the rubble of a 14-storey building that collapsed in Alexandria earlier this week, bringing the total number of casualties to 10 deaths and four injuries. The units announced Tuesday evening the retrieval of three new victims, a woman, and two men. Four people, including a paramedic, were injured in the vicinity of the collapsed building that is located on Khalil Hamada Street in the Montazah neighborhood.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the collapse, which occurred on Monday morning, resulted from a "vertical split" in the structure of the building, reportedly as a result of "illegal construction work" on the last floor.
Civil Protection Forces on Tuesday recovered a fifth body from the collapsed building in Sidi Beshr area, east of Alexandria, bringing the total number of victims to five dead and four injured so far.
