good morning, everyone. it s february 1, 2010. here s what s happening this hour. the obama administration finally listening and ready to move the terror trial of alleged 9/11 mastermind, khalid sheik muhammad out of new york city. dana perino is here with eight reasons why he will ultimately be tried in a military tribunal. all right. massachusetts senator-elect scott brown ready to talk health care reform in d.c. and he wants everyone to have a voice. everyone really is the 41st senator and what it means is that now there will be full and fair debate and there will be no more behind closed doors. attention, c-span, will the democrats take part in that if that happens? and brian, an embarrassing mistake for a united nations committee on climate change. getting even worse. now we re learning they knew about a mistake involving a
lifetime. absolutely. i think the permanent bill which is $11 million over 11 years is necessary. the big story has to be the rethinking of khalid sheik muhammad and the four cohorts that masterminded this plot not being tried in new york city. what do you think about that? i m not someone who lives in new york city anymore. if i lived in new york city, i would absolutely say do not have it here. i have been through 9/11. i worked two blocks from the trade center and i don t want to see it here. and if we re going to spend $200 million to try this man, why can t we spend it somewhere else? i think that he can be tried somewhere else. you re not alone among new yorkers, jennifer mcnamara, thank you for coming in and sharing your personal story with us. thank you for having me. straight ahead, scott brown s win really shaking things up in d.c. have you heard? some progressives are calling themselves populists, is there
guantanamo bay. you re not just projecting. this trial was under way as a tribunal. he and khalid sheik muhammad is on the record. you can read his transcript. this guy is going to be spouting off and talking about his theories about al-qaida and why america is evil and that is going to be a go sign, logic would say to all these cells in this country that seem to be rearing up. more now than ever. i want to ask you, in terms of legislators and lawmakers, you must feel hardened because on both sides of the aisle, they seem to be willing to cut off the funding to stop the criminal trials. here s mitch mcconnell yesterday. salut absolutely. i think that will be done on a bipartisan basis and they figure out whatever domestic support they had for this is totally collapsing. your reaction, madam? i think that well, senator mcconnell is absolutely right and he is in a position to know. more so than i am that they won t be appropriating this money and so i think he s right in that
surprised that democrats and republicans have combined on one theme that khalid sheik muhammad and his four cohorts will not be tried in new york city, the administration all but admits it s not going to be there. i am not at all surprised. i m a little bit disappointed in myself in that i planned to write the piece that we talked about this weekend back before christmas because i had come to the conclusion in just talking to a lot of people that i never believed that khalid sheik muhammad would ever step foot in new york city for that trial that they had designed and it s amazing to me that they didn t do any of the groundwork leading up to it and all of a sudden, senators schumer and gillebrand who were initially supportive of the idea, now everybody is against it. yeah, what does this mean ultimately? if nowhere will take khalid sheik muhammad though the mayor of newburgh, new york wants to have the trial. if that gets overrun, what does this mean? does it ultimately end up in a
example they hold up is bin laden s driver who ended up having a military tribunal and only get a five month sentence and has now returned to yemen. they say that surely, federal court could have done better. that s possible. but i think also, remember, one of the other points that i make in that piece is that we have a martha stewart factor. now, she s not related to this case. but if you think about what happened in new york during her six-week trial, it was a complete and utter circus with journalists everywhere and one of the problems with the moussaoui case in my opinion, was that we gave him such a forum to be able to spout out his hatred for america, that it just became a circus. so imagine, khalid sheik muhammad, the mastermind of the evil that killed 3,000 american citizens, i just believe that at the end of the day, the members of congress are going to come to the conclusion that the best thing for us to do is to have this as military commission at
