Un incendio devastó una sala para pacientes de COVID-19 en el sur de Irak, causando la muerte de al menos 50 personas y dejando heridas a decenas más, informaron funcionarios médicos el lunes.
Todos los fallecidos sufrieron quemaduras graves durante el incendio en el hospital de enseñanza Al Hussein, en la ciudad sureña de Nasirya, añadieron. Al menos 50 personas murieron y otras se encuentran en estado crítico.
El fuego fue provocado por un cortocircuito, señalaron los funcionarios, sin dar detalles. Otro representante sanitario de la provincia de Dhi Qar, donde se encuentra Nasiriya, dijo que las llamas surgieron al estallar un tanque de oxígeno.
