Khaled Al Khawaldeh Indigenous communities from across the country came together recently for the Firesticks virtual conference, which promotes cultural fire practices. For thousands of years, cultural fire practices have been employed by Aboriginal communities to help control fire hazards. Held over two days, the conference provided an opportunity to showcase the important work that Indigenous groups had been doing throughout the year, as well as exchange ideas and information to aid in planning for the future. Victor Steffensen, co-founder of the Firestick Alliance, an Indigenous-led network that aims at reinvigorating cultural burning practices, kicked off the conference with a determined message.

Khaled Al Khawaldeh Mullumbimby sits about 8km from the coast, but walking into Hooked and Cooked Seafood gives one the feeling of being sat right by the seaside. The aroma of fresh wild caught seafood on the grill is as authentic as the friendly and welcoming service that you are sure to receive.  Upon my visit I had the pleasure of being served by owner and seafood enthusiast Liat Ben Yishay. Liat grew up on the Mediterranean coast where her Greek grandfather, who caught his own fish, would cook them using simple ingredients, letting the quality of the catch to do the real talking.
