Engineering and infrastructure firm Megawide today (Dec 11) revealed details of its Banaue Rice Terraces -inspired architectural design for the P109 billion rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 (T1).
“We’re not just rehabilitating an airport, we’re creating a new symbol for the country,” declated Louie Ferrer, Megawide Executive Director for Infrastructure Development.
Megawide proposed to rehabilitate NAIA with partner GMR Infrastructure Ltd (GMR).
The Banaue Rice Terraces is a national heritage landmark and the 8th Wonder of the World built over 2,000 years ago.
Hence, the central landscape of the rehabilitared NAIA will be called the “Hagdan” (“Steps”), a sunken garden reminiscent of the terraces.
