Tu BiShvat Starts Wednesday Night – Tasty and Mysterious | The Jewish Press - JewishPress com | David Israel | 14 Shevat 5781 – January 27, 2021

Kindergarden children from Kfar Ratamim with plants in honor of Tu Bishvat, January 28, 2018. According to the Mishna at the beginning of Tractate Rosh Hashanah, there are four days in the Jewish year that serve as Rosh Hashanah, or the New Year, each for a different purpose. On the first of Nisan (the month of Passover) is the New Year for kings – from this date, the years of a king’s rule are counted. On the first of Elul (July-August) is the New Year for animal tithes – all the animals born before that date belong to the previous tithe year, and those born after that date belong to the next tithe year. On the first of Tishrei is the New Year for counting years, for planting, for determining the three-year period from when a tree has been planted during which time its fruit is forbidden, and for tithing vegetables.
