Three well known elite dressage horses have been withdrawn from competition: Super Nova, Rose of Bavaria and Cosmo.  One is making a long-awaited come back: Lorenzo. CDI Wellington The brand new CDI Wellington has been granted Olympic qualification status, which means that the best of the British senior riders are all entered in their bid for a place on the Tokyo plane and a spot for September’s European Championships in Hagen.

Hughes 2019 British EC Team Ride Briolinca Withdrawn from Olympic Contention Fri, 05/07/2021 - 10:10 Great Britain Gareth Hughes has withdrawn his number one Grand Prix horse, Briolinca, from British Olympic team contention. The horse is not fit to compete at highest level. Briolinca is a 15-year old Dutch warmblood mare by Trento B x Royal Dance. She is bred by the Van der Steen brothers in The Netherlands and owned by Hughes in partnership with Julia Hornig.  Gareth and Rebecca Hughes scouted her as a 3-year old. Dressage rider Gareth Hughes withdraws mare from Tokyo contention

One of Britain’s top dressage horses has been ruled out of this summer’s Tokyo Olympics owing to injury. Gareth Hughes’ 2019 European Championships team horse, the 15-year-old Trento B mare Classic Briolinca, sustained a strain to a ligament in her front leg at the start of this year. As a result, she has been withdrawn from Olympic team consideration. “With that sort of injury they do need a few months off and the timing couldn’t have been worse; she will be back in work just as they trot down the centre line in Tokyo,” Gareth told H&H.
