The notion that Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X or George Floyd died so that Black people could have the self-determination to work and play at casinos sounds like the germ of a "Boondocks" episode. And the wealthy founder of a media conglomerate stirring up class warfare among Black folks in Richmond would be merely ironic if so much weren t at stake.
An effort is underway to resurrect the state's Amistad Commission, which was created by law 18 years ago with a promise to invigorate the teaching of Black history in schools to correct false, outdated and deficient narratives in instruction.
