A judge says he won t make a decision about Calgary COVID restriction rule-breakers which include a local pastor, a cafe owner and a mayoral candidate until after he has heard all five contempt cases, the first of which got underway Wednesday.
Court of Queen s Bench Justice Adam Germain presided over the first of the hearings involving men accused of organizing gatherings in blatant breach of restrictions.
The Alberta Department of Health Services has obtained a restraining order against Calgary mayor candidate Kevin J. Johnston, who threatened to arm himself and go to the homes of health workers.
Johnston has a history of racism, hatred and suspected acts of violence, and is known for organizing, leading and speaking in the extreme right protests held in various provinces against the government-imposed restrictions on the COVID-19 pandemic.
He has been trying to release the private information of the employees of the Alberta Health Service and has registered as a candidate for mayor of Calgary, which makes him worry that this move will allow him to enter the community including every Calgary who is eligible to participate in the event. List of names, addresses and phone numbers to vote.

In the not-so-distant future, a man who has a history of racist, hateful, allegedly violent behaviour and is attempting to publish the private information of Alberta Health Services employees is set to receive a list that includes the names, addresses and phone numbers of every Calgarian eligible to vote.
That s because Kevin J. Johnston, known for organizing, leading and speaking at far-right protests against government-imposed pandemic restrictions, is running for mayor of Calgary.
