Allan Hancock College Fire Academy instructor retires after more than 30 years of service

Allan Hancoock College SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College Fire Academy Coordinator Andy Densmore is retiring after more than 30 years of service with the academy. Hundreds of firefighters who trained at the academy have gone on to work for local agencies and beyond. “Andy is a legend in the firefighting community,” said Mitch McCann, associate dean for Hancock’s Public Safety Training Complex (PSTC) in Lompoc. “His leadership has impacted our entire college and will be missed by not only the men and women of public safety training but the entire firefighting community.” Densmore graduated from Hancock s fire academy in 1978. He spent 30 years as a firefighter for Lompoc Fire Department.

He spent 30 years as a firefighter before retiring as battalion chief. His final year at Hancock was impacted by covid-19, but college officials say Densmore helped implement new safety procedures that allowed the firefighter training program to continue during the pandemic.

Suzanne Levy sworn in as Hancock College s new Area 2 trustee

Former Hancock College educator Suzanne Levy was sworn in to a seat on Hancock s board of trustees Tuesday after triumphing in November s two-person race to represent Area 2. Levy took her oath of office over Zoom along with reelected trustees Hilda Zacarias and Jeffery Hall, who will be entering their third and second terms, respectively. Fellow board members applauded and congratulated Levy after she was sworn in by college President and Superintendent Kevin G. Walthers.  “We look forward to working closely with our new trustee as we continue our mission to change the odds for students in our community and ensure student success,” Walthers said.
