RED CROSS HOPING TO BOLSTER BLOOD DONATIONS

By Kevin Zimmermann Jan 25, 2021 6:36 AM (WHBL) – In a normal year, the American Red Cross would be appealing for blood donations at this time to compensate for lower donor numbers during the holidays, but COVID-19 makes the need even greater this year.  Besides saving lives during emergencies and surgeries, blood with COVID-19 antibodies can also be used to help people survive their fight against the coronavirus. The Red Cross tests all blood, platelet and plasma donations for the antibodies, and donors can find out if their blood has them within a week or two through the Red Cross donor portal. To encourage donations during February, all donors will receive a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card via email that month.
