Knife River on mission to establish synthetic limestone
Knife River Corp. plans to pursue a commercial means of creating and marketing synthetic limestone, establishing a partnership with a technology company to develop construction-grade rock and, ultimately, concrete that would have a net-zero or net-negative carbon footprint.
Knife River, which is a subsidiary of MDU Resources, specifically partnered with Blue Planet Systems Corp. Knife River made an investment in the company, and David Barney, president and CEO of Knife River, joined Blue Planet’s five-member board of directors.
A goal of the joint pursuit is for concrete to maintain the strength for which it is known, Knife River says.
Knife River expands in Wyoming through acquisition
Knife River Corp. expanded its Intermountain region footprint by acquiring the assets of McMurry Ready-Mix Co., an aggregate and ready-mixed concrete supplier based in Casper, Wyoming.
Knife River is the construction materials subsidiary of MDU Resources Group, operating in 15 states.
According to Knife River, McMurry’s estimated aggregate reserves are nearly 100 million tons, and they’re strategically positioned throughout central Wyoming – including along Interstates 25 and 80. McMurry also has a ready-mix concrete plant on the west side of Casper, complementing Knife River’s east Casper location.
Knife River’s Intermountain operations also include Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming, as well as locations throughout Montana and Idaho.
