The Eastern Cape Liquor Board and Azanian People's Organisation have described the sentence handed down to the owners of the Enyobeni tavern as ‘too lenient.”
Enyobeni tavern's owner and operational manager Vuyokazi and her husband Siyakhangela Ndevu have been sentenced to fines of R5,000 each, with the alternative of 100 days' imprisonment.
The families and East London community have called for the case of the Enyobeni tavern operator and manager to be concluded speedily to bring closure to the families of 21 children who died at the tavern. The infamous tavern in Scenery Park in East London made international news when the children dropped dead in June.
